Used mvchannels.tcl to bring up chan 199 (HDnet)
on the program guide.

When the channels is tuned the current program
schedule shows up but then a
"Channel not available" bar flashes on the
bottom of the screen. It seems like the
DSR6000 is trying to tune the channel, then
fails, then retries in a loop.

Since this is an HD channel, I wouldn't expect
it to be able to display anything, but I was
hoping that it would at least allow me to
record the datastream for later extraction.

If I hit the "record" button it just gives
me the TiVo "bong" noise.

Any ideas or is it time to give up?

If I schedule a "future" recording it does
put it in the Todo list, and the program
shows up in "now playing" for the first
minute when showtime comes on but after a
minute it just deletes the entry and gives up.

Have you tried scheduling it to record on the inactive tuner? Perhapse it deletes the entry when it realizes that some important information is missing from the tivo datastream? Have you tried extracting the stream before the tivo deleted it? One last question that I am not sure if I have asked before, are current day hard disks capable of storing information fast enough for high definition streaming?

Note: I would experiment myself but I am currently awaiting a multiswitch :(

HDTV is 19.3Mbit/sec or less.

Lowly UDMA/33 is plenty fast enough
(and UDMA/66, UDMA/100, UDMA/133) would be
overkill.

It seems to be the TiVo software that decides
that the datastream is invalid and deletes it.

SO has anyone sucessfully gotten the tivo to make a stream from a HD channel? How about direct access to the fpga has anyone tried to get to the TS of an HD channel there?

Here's my experiance. SimpleFpgaRecord doesn't work under 2.5.2 so I just used tivoweb to schedule the recording. I got this error:
{Error in RequestTuner: 0x0009000a}
I used to have an *unmentionable* which gave some of my receivers the HD channels. They'd lock up on tuning it but maybe I could put that musketeer in the tivo and see if I get the same error.

Just to keep talking to myself. I have now used a card which in another receiver allowed HBOH to show up in the guide and programmed a spot. It now says:
{Showing became invalid}
Looks like the tivo is checking attributes of the stream.

i would imagine that the limitation on recording HD stuff is in tivoapp, same as the recording limits on the music chans. check in there and see what you find.

So what is the recommended approach for that? PPC disasembler? I guess the dev kit will help.
