i followed the "how to" section step by step for installing mvchannels and i have run into a problem
when the guide says:
"14) to activate the local channels type at the bash prompt:
./mvchannels.tcl -loop=0 -file=/var/hack/channels.dat <enter>"

did that great...no prob but,
now it just goes to sleep mode and loops itself every 5mins...how do i get the bash promt back so i can edit rc.sysinit????
thx,david

You will have to reboot to get your bash back.

I think there is some info about spawning the mvchannel off to it's own process in the howto so you get bash back.

If you want it to run as a separate process, you need to add an ampersand (&) to the end. You should also redirect the output to null. So your line becomes

./mvchannels.tcl -loop=0 -file=/var/hack/channels.dat > /dev/null &

ok...great now i have a prob with channels.dat
i edit it and send it over then i get it back and all of the channels but 4 have "#!" in front of them!!
the 4 that it likes are:
GV4:4:16:2859:204:1
GV7:7:17:2859:203:1
DTV:998:998:2859:267:1
DTV:999:999:2859:266:1

this is what it looks like:
#
# Format---
# Name : Number : Alt.Num : fsid : subobjid : [0,1,2]
#
# 0 - Hide channel
# 1 - Map to 0-99 channel number
# 2 - Map to 900s channel number
# # - Comment out to ignore

Did you run mvchannels.tcl dumpall? There seems to be no ID's filled in for your channels. I can't believe you're only authorized for two stations.

ok...i did a /.mvchannels.tcl -dumpall and got the channels edited in textpad then sent them back over...when to turn on the tivo it went from nothing in the 0-99 range to 5channels to one (ect gv5....ch1 ......la2...ch1....dt13...ch1)..and now it's takin it forever for the remote to respond(surprise)....FYI i had the channels set to the 900's range(not there). is there any other progs that give the 900's for all of the transponders that you recieve in your area???
thx

i heard that "main.dat" has changed since the prog was released..if i delete it what will that cause??.

I think this list will be helpful to anyone wondering which channels they should be able to get in their spot beam. I have not confirmed the accuracy of it but it looks right.
