Sony DirecTivo remote on a non sony

Lets say somebody wanted to have all of the features of a sony tivo on a non sony tivo, all they would have to do is go buy a sony remote for $30, and load a sony version of 25xtreme on it, and the sony vcr buttons all work too, right? Or is there something else I'm missing here?

Load a sony image it thinks it's a sony.
The VCR stuff only works with a sony VCR.
There is a script the enables the Sony VCR funtions an any DTiVo.
