If you've been thinking about getting a phone with wireless web and are on AT&T, you can get a free cell phone by dropping in at your local AT&T store. Model is an Ericsson 289LX w/ PocketNet service. AT&T is given them away (no contracts... if you don't like it, have them hook up your old phone and you get to KEEP this one!)
More importantly... There is allegedly a flaw in their billing system that doesn't charge you for use of the wireless internet in "tethered mode" (i.e., sort of like Network Address Translation) But this mode supposedly DOES allow you to browse the web, get e-mail, etc. All through a data cable that attaches to the phone. So you can have wireless web anywhere AT&T has pocketnet service and NOT pay their $15/mo.
This deal won't be good forever, however, because AT&T is changing over their network to GSM and PocketNet is going away. (Hence the phone giveaway.) But hey, if you're not happy with your AT&T phone... switch for free! :D
