RE: DSR6000r upgrade woe's

I think I blew up my prom(?)
Does the "powering up " message you see at first power-on come from the prom on the TIVO Main board?
In other words , with IDE cable disconnected, should I see at least "Powering Up"?

If so, I think I blew up my prom. How can I tell?

Background
dsr6000r stock. Used it for about 3 weeks with subbed hu / no tivo service.
worked fine.
(I all-ready have a 67hr dtivo with all the goodies that I upgraded previous, so this is my second upg.)

purchased 2 80 GB 5400 RPM maxtors for the new unit
did the 25 extreme upgrade all seemed fine at pc section.
Installed drives in tivo
powering up..... hung, no drive activity
waited 20 min...
pulled plug, tried again, same thing, powering up.....
reseated all connectors and ribbon cables
same thing pulled plug , powering up....
At this point ( at least 4 or 5 more plug pulling BS ,
I couln't even get "powering up anymore now just white screen (not snow),
DOH!
had a beer

Found a post about locking drives, downloaded and ran qunlock (maxtor drives with Quantam Firmware)

THEN , I took my perfectly good 67hr tivo, took out the 2 drives in it and replaced them with a fresh xtreme load on the 2 80's and it worked mint all the way through
THEN I put the drives back in the suspect unit, white screen….

I think I blew up my PROM with all the AC plug pulling and my actual original problem was that the drives were locked.

Any sugestions ?

thanks in advance

Unplug the tivo and take the battery out for a 10 minutes or so.

Short the battery connection on the TiVo (while it is still unplugged ) to make sure anything residuall gremblins in the cmos are cleared.

With out the drives connected and no battery plug it in and see if you get the powering screen.

If you do put the battery back in, reinstall extreme on your new drives and let xtreme go through it's setup ( several reboots and about 10 minutes time ).

If you don't get the powering up screen let it sit over nite without the battery and try again.

If still no joy you probably hosed your prom.

There are a few on this forum that have the ability to fix a hosed prom.

If it's hosed post again and someone here might be able to help.
