View Full Version : help with winzipped img

I downloaded a zipped 25xtreme image. I'm confused as to how to extract the iso image so I can burn a CD. The zip has the image and a readme. If I double click 25xtreme.iso from within winzip, winimage opens and offers to extract the image. What do I need to do to end up with a iso file ?

You need to burn the iso image to your CD using something like EZCD or CDRWin.

Thanks. I understood that I needed to burn the image.
I just needed to click "extract" instead of double clicking it.
Can I boot from the CD and just browse it with overwriting my hard drive?

The Xtreme CD is bootable, but it doesn't get mounted automatically, so you can't browse it unless you use the mount command. It creates a RAM disk for the utils needed, so if you do poke around, you'll be looking at the RAM disk contents, not the CD's.
You can also get a util called ISObuster, which will let you expand and extract files from the ISO image.
Not sure what you mean about overwriting your hard drive. If you mounted your hard drive under Linux you certainly could mess things up.
