This is a question y'all have probably answered any number of times before, but being a total newbie on Tivo, I don't quite know what keywords to even search for.

A buddy of mine, a total Tivo-holic, had his drive go bad on his 30-hour Phillips Tivo and rather than fix it, ordered one of the new series of 60-hour units. He's offered to sell me his busted unit, including a lifetime subscription, for a song. He's been so high on Tivo that he's got me really hooked into the idea. Though I wish the unit recorded HD material, I've decided to give it a try.

While I'm comfortable replacing the drive with a new one (and I don't know if I even need more than 30 hours), I don't know where to go to get a "good" image file for the drive. I've checked out some of the forums and faqs on upgrading to larger drives and they all talk about the need to back up the old A drive and restoring it on the new drive. Since the A drive is hosed, is there a place I can download an ISO file with an image to restore onto the replacement drive?

Any suggestions or links to existing answeres would be greatly appreciated!

You might try
ftp://ftp.abs.net/tivo/Backups/
I have heard some people have had luck there.

I do appreciate the information. By the way, my buddy just dropped off the unit and it's a Phillips PTV300, if that makes a difference.
