DirecTivo Purchase

Im currently researching and getting ready to purchase a DirecTivo unit(probably ebay) and wanted to know are there any units i should try and avoid? or are there units that are more desirable then others? Im going to be looking to do the whole range of hacks and dont want to get off on the wrong foot by making a bad purchase.

All 3 brands have pretty much the same hardware. The only real difference is cosmetic and the Sony has the ability to control a Sony VCR when using the Save to VCR feature.
