View Full Version : BBC hijacks TiVo recorders

This is a slighty disturbing new development. Apparently Tivo is now accepting bribes from broadcasters. What they do is force their units to record shows without viewer consent that CAN NOT be deleted for a week :

Actually, they apparently also plan to start recording programs from STARZ on the dtv units sometimes soon as part of a 'free' video on demand. Apparently the systems will store a few movies so that you can watch them when ever you want to....
Makes you wonder how much 'reserved' space there is on those disks...

About the bbc recording-
who the hell cares.
I beleve it goes in the freaking reserved space.
if you were watching something when they want to record that crap it checks with you - just like a suggestion.
it's no different than the crap from best buy in the showcase except it got recorded at 8pm instead of 3 am.
Fill the stinking 5 hours of reserved space with something already- its a stinking waste sitting there on my hard drive.
THey need to make money somehow since half the people here arent paying them. I would rather not be farting around making our own guide data if they go out of business.
<nice tone on>
Also DOc- fyi- the starz junk apparently will (or can) record in your space- but you will need to OPT IN before it takes your space. I think i saw that basically they would be like suggestions but just moveds to the very top of the suggestions list- but not sure on that one.
