Records with access card out...

I've noticed that the tv listing and the ability to record programs remains active regardless of having an access card in the IRD.

Of course you can't view the recording until you insert a valid card but I'm wondering what happends if you use the no scramble script I've seen around?

no scramble has nothing to do with the access card. noscramble simply prevents the tivo from re-encrypting the recordings as they get stored on the disk, after the access card decodes them. the dtivo will not record any actual data with no access card, so there is nothing that you could decode later.

hypothetically speaking, you could capture and store the ca stream and the program stream and then run them through the decryption later.. of course, that'd require a fair bit of hacking.. :D

bubbaj is right. the proper way to state what i said would be that the way the tivo software is designed, it records nothing if it cant successfully decode the stuff.
