hi guys-
my setup. just installed xtreme25 on tivo hd. running emu. i have a bash cable for the tivo but i dont know if i need it. i'm confused by all the different posts about local channels, lifetime, clear logs, etc....
i'm not going to plug in the phone to the tivo. do i need to install the clear logs, local channels, or lifetime hack? do i even need to do anything from the bash prompt? i bought the cord thinking i would need to do some stuff but now i'm not so sure.
also where is there a file that explains how to get a bash prompt from the serial port. i know i use teraterm, but i can't find a guide that will walk me through it.
THANKS!

If you installed 2.5Xtreme you should be able to plug your serial cable into the Tivo and start Teraterm via serial port. The bash prompt should come up within a few seconds after connecting. Take a look at the How-To's threads at the beginning of the forum to get the answers you seek.

i did read through them...but they just say what to do to say, get local channels....
i dont know if i need to do the lifetime sub, or local channels, or clear logs.... is there a place that says what each one is? and whether or not its included on the xtreme25 image?

The fix for the lifetime sub is intended to get rid of any nag screens that result from not having an active Tivo subscription. The benefit is that it also allows you to use most of the Tivo features that would normally require a paid subscription for monthly Tivo service or one-time payment for lifetime service. This is described in the How-To's. The local channels fix allows you to set up the program guide so the local channels for your area can be displayed in the guide. Most of the instructions and program downloads are designed to set up the local channels in the 900's in the guide. You can also set them up to be displayed in the 0-99 range which requires less programming and editing (and also fewer headaches as far as I'm concerned). Do a search for mvch135.zip or mvch136.zip and display the results as posts rather than threads. You will probably have to edit the channels.dat file contained in the zip file. You will also have to set up the spending limit so that your locals will show up in the guide. It is recommended to transfer the files to your Tivo first and then edit them using joe via Teraterm and the serial port. Run a search for the file logsnull.zip for the program to clear out the logs. I think there's a readme file in the zip file. This clears out the logs and prevents them from building up on your drive.
