I'm currently searching for a DirecTV Tivo. I've been looking in stores for the discontinued series one hopefully trying to pick up an open box item. I see that the Sony T60 is very popular. Does the RCA model function just as well? Is there any major difference or are they pretty much the same machine? Thanks

I'm searching the best buys in my area. I see some open box T60s. They can only sell them with the access card so I'm waiting on the access cards to arrive. If I do get the T60, should I buy the remote from sony or is there a generic remote that does the same thing?

Gene--RCA doesn't make Dtivo. In the next month or so the new Series II Dtivo will be out, priced at $199. Don't spend too much for an open box.

Thanks for the correction. I was thinking about the philips DSR6000 :D Anyway, I want a series one for the ability to add the turbonet card and its proven that it can be upgraded. I don't plan to pay more than $100 for the open box tivo. Thanks for the help. I did a search and found the answer to my question about the remote control

the RCA is probably an ultimate TV, stay away from those.

Gene--In the NY area open box units (with no remote) were going for 299 and up. I agree $100 is a reasonable price.

In my area, there is a local store that has approximately 15 units. I bought one for myself two weeks ago and one for a friend today. They have a manufacture date of July 2002. The hard disk is stamped 2.5.1 which I am sure is the software version. The only down sides are the fact that they want full price for them and that they come with the new P4 card.:)

I'm still waiting for the access card to be delivered to the store so it can be sold. The only problem is this receiver looks like it's been dropped or stepped on. The rear left corner of the top casing is dented in some but I would have 30 days to return. Hopefully, I can get it and start upgrading :D

I got 4 tivos with remotes and everything but the actual box from Circuit City .... cost was $249 each. (course + the cards)

But I got 5 cards so that seemed fair.... :)

I just bought a factory renewed DSR6000 from americansatellite.com for $100 shipped. They seem legit since Tivo links to them on their website. Looks like everything's here, including two self-install kits with a lot of coax. It has the full Philips warranty. Time for me to climb up on the roof.

I just bought the T60 from abtelectronics.com. I looked at the Philips (refurbished) on AmSat and it was $249 + $10 shipping. Can you post the link where they are listed for $100 ???

Thanks..
