I have an Enigmah final mod chip.
My friend modded a brand new xbox for me. Turns out the dvd rom was bad. He said he put his dvd rom into the xbox and the games all worked fine.

Well after receiving it, I had already swapped out a brand new dvd rom from an xbox I went and bought. Again...I was still having problems.

Seems, sometimes the games will load and play for a brief period of time. Then it will either freeze or pop up an error message saying, invalid media detected, sometimes when I try to load a game it will say cannot read disk, it may be dirty etc.

I can load and play regular games just fine. I find it hard to believe that two BRAND NEW dvd roms are faulty , and if they were faulty they wouldn't work with regular games right? So my question is: Do you think it's the mod job (although the games do play from time to time so if it was modded wrong it wouldn't do anything I presume) or do you think it may be the actual chip itself?, or do you think it could be the damned dvd rom?

Please guys, I'm going nuts here.

Also, I'm using these plain white dvd-r's that were tested in my buddies modded xbox.
Thank you in advance

well man
seems like your bios

cause if the games are bootin thats good

that means the mod is good

if the they are playin for a brief period of time

that means your cds are spinning and your dvd is fine.

Now your bios, you should flash it to the latest evolution X 2.3 bios. These have all fixes for enigmahs and xtenders and are HIGHLY recommended due to the fact that both chips were buggy off initial release

hope that helps

That could be it, however I know many people that are using the Enigmah as is and it's fine. The difference however between thier system and mine is the version of xbox. Seems the original xbox's to come out had a better dvd rom inside of them. Well, we'll see Tuesday , I'm having someone ship me an original dvd rom from the one of the xboxs that came out the first day!.

I've been reading a lot on the forums of http://forums.xbox-scene.com Seems the drives aren't tweaked to read certain type of media.. ex. cheap dvd-r media for the xbox.

This enigmah also was purchased just 3 weeks ago. So hopefully bugs are worked out.

Moving on though., how does one flash their bios?

some of the xbox dvd drives are just really picky about media ... you might want to try different media ... i have had i little problem with vivastar media ( one occurrence of 'scratched disk' error ) ... i've also been using PrimeDisc just fine. if all else fails try pioneer or apple disk they are supposed to be very high quality. they seem to work best for the ps2.

i did have to swapout one dvd drive out of 6 ... it had a VERY hard time reading anything.

hope that helps

i have had similar problems. Burned a few discs from a spool of DVDR discs, one acted irratically, one skipped once i got a while into the game, rest worked great.

OK update I hate to leave open threads.

It was my dvd reader. fortunately enough, I acquired a dvd rom from an xbox that was purchased on the first day of release. The games booted up just like that .. no problems at all. WOrk with any media I throw in em. I wonder why the drives of today are having problems reading our media as opposed to the early drives?
