I was wondering if anyone has used a power plug Y spliiter to add a ventilation fan to a DSR6000.

I have seen lots of power supply problem posts and am kind of concerned about this mod...but the thing is running HOT as heck....

I have the original 45g drive and a 5400rpm 120g drive in it and you could cook eggs on it. Well, maybe not THAT hot, but it is uncomfortable to touch the back near the power supply.

The info screen says something like 55 degrees C - Normal or something to that effect, but this thing seems to hot, and I have been getting strange reboots and even a GSOD recently requiring a reformat.

Any ideas?

I replaces the stock internal fan with a new Thermaltake one using the onboard molex connector. Seems to be working fine for me. Have 2 160 GB drives and turbonet.

Yes, I have added an external fan using a Y power cable - works fine and runs much cooler

A lot of people use a notebook cooler that fits under the DTivo and have reported good results using it. Check the HowTos threads for a link to a site that carries the cooler. It runs about $20 plus shipping.

I too have added a Y splitter and upgraded and added an extra fan to all 3 of my dtivos all with two 7200 rpm hds with no power problems whatsoever. It has helped to lower temps from 54C to 40C and during the winter months I get a nice chilly 35C.
