First off, I've been reading (read: lurking) a lot here over the past year or so, and I tried searching for a solution to my problem, but have found nothing thus far...
First some background:
I had a DSR6K with single 40gb drive, running 25xtreme. I recently purchased an extra, Maxtor 60gb 5400rpm, hard drive that I wanted to add on as a Tivo B drive (and hopefully not lose any recordings in the process)....
What I did:
I placed my Tivo A drive into my PC, booted up with 25xtreme, and immediately made a backup image using: "mfstool backup -6so ..." Everything appeared to backup correctly (no error messages, and I got a ~135mb file so it seemed about right). I read a LOT about what to do to add JUST a new B drive, and I finally came to the conclusion that I just needed to run "mfstool mfsadd -x /dev/Tivo'sA /dev/Tivo'sB" (using the correct drive IDs of course). After I did that and placed my drives back into my DTivo, I got to "Almost there..." and then the tivo would just reboot and repeat that process over and over again.
Long story short:
I have restored the image to my Tivo A drive, and just run BlessTivo on the new B drive, and now my tivo works and reports only 77 hours (40gb + 60gb). If I try to run mfsadd on them, it shows success and claims 102hours, but when I put the drives back into my tivo I get the same rebooting problem.
I'm okay with the 77 hours for now, my real concern is that about 80% of my recordings now show "Error playing recording". I have even restored the backup and placed it back in just a single drive setup (like it was when I first backed it up), and I get the exact same error! I couldn't care less about my thumbs ratings or my season passes, but I had almost the entire first season of Scrubs on that drive and I wanted to extract them to DVDs at some point [I don't have a turbonet yet].
While searching through this site, I saw a few people mentioning noscramble.o, but I don't believe that's the problem since I don't have that file anywhere on my DTivo (at least it's not in /lib/modules, and i've gone through almost every other dir without finding it...), nor do I see why it would suddenly be a problem considering I get this error even after restoring the backup image and changing absolutely nothing.
My question:
Is there ANY way to salvage these recordings (preferably so that I could watch them on my tivo again, but I'll settle for just buying a turbonet and being able to extract them too)?
Thanks in advanced!
P.S. - I was planning on just running 25xtreme again (once I solve this problem) on both the 40gb + 60gb drive in order to get the full capacity up and going...
P.P.S. - Anyone happen to have any episodes of Scrubs they've already extracted? I'd gladly pay for shipping + your time. =o)
