View Full Version : Is there any reason that I wouldn't want to use Kraven's Update?

I'm scrapping whatever recordings that I have left, and adding/swapping drives in one of my DSR6K's. Both of them were hacked prior to the original extreme release. I figured that I might as well use extreme this time, so that I can be on the same page as everyone else. I'm also thinking about using Kraven's update, but want to make sure that it won't cause me any problems. When it was originally released, I remember that some people had problems with Tivonet(or turbonet)? I don't have any ethernet adapters, or hacks(no tivonet/turbonet, etc.). My current boxes have no ppv, no ssd, clearlogs.tcl, fixup02c, the flash is locked down, and I've edited the rc.sysinit to block software upgrades.

So, Please answer the question in the thread title....and......I can't remember, but extreme should load O.K. even though I currently have 2.5 and the flashed prom right? Will the Locked flash cause any problems?

Well, it appears that the answer to my question is "NO". Both the Extreme & Kraven upgrades went very smoothly last night. Everything is working great.

Sorry, for the newbie-type-question. At least next time I'll know and will be able to answer it for someone else.

Thanks Surgeon & Kraven :)

The only things that bother me about kravens upgrade is that it loads many things which people don't use by default, which tends to slow down your already slow tivo, as well as change a few things that make it not as "newbie friendly" (namely mounting / as read only), and it loads a few tester specific hacks (noppv) by default. Of course its easy to change all of that, so in general its worth it, just make sure your aware of what it does (much like anything you hack your tivo with).

That's Ironic, seeing that the file in general is a "newby friendly" approch to actually Hacking your tivo in the first place. I see your point, however. I ran into the read only mounting problem last night when trying to install your NoSSD hack. I did a "RZ" & couldn't receive the files, because I forgot to change it to read write.
