View Full Version : Potential problems subbing a hacked DTivo?

In the wake of the H-card's demise, I finally decided to succomb and sub my DSR6000 to DTV. I already have five other receivers currently subbed (two of them are UTVs, including the UTV monthly fee) so I figured what the heck, what's one more? I had been archiving episodes of Babylon 5 and Seinfeld and a few others but they are on channels that I was already paying for. I was just hacking DTV for the fun of it and believe me, they were getting well compensated for it. But, enough of that. Let's get to the real reason for this post.

I have a DSR6000 with a Turbonet, 2.5Xtreme, Kraven's original upgrade, locals, and a "lifetime" sub and a few other scripts. I am curious as to how any of this will interact with a legit subscription to DTV being applied with all of this on my DTivo. I am getting the locals with my sub so I can see the need to delete the locals script I had installed. I have no intention of using a phone line with this unit, primarily to prevent the eventual update to 3.0.

Oddly enough, the DTV rep didn't even ask me about subbing to the Tivo service. I never mentioned it was a DTivo but just said it was an additional receiver. You'd think they'd have a working knowledge of the various models on the market but most of them are completely clueless. I initially tried to add the DTivo to my existing service via the DTV website using a P4 card they sent me. I looped one of my subbed cards the other day by accident so I decided to upgrade my aging RCA 303 with a 420 that I had lying around.

I contacted DTV and they sent me a new card at no charge. I decided to use it for the DTivo instead but I wasn't able to get all the way through the activation procedure on-line before I hit a brick wall and couldn't proceed. I had another virgin P3 card that I had also hosed but managed to unloop that I wanted to use but when inserted in the DTivo I could only get 711 and 745 messages, even on the free channels. I rebooted the DTivo and then it got me the preview channels, but not before my attempt to activate it on-line. When I talked to the DTV rep, she said that the card No. I gave her for the RCA had already been activated for the DSR6000. I explained to her what had happened but she was able to switch the card over to the RCA. I found this interesting because I thought that once a card was subbed with a receiver it couldn't be changed. I guess that since the activation process did not reach completion, the card was never married to the receiver.

Actually I've seen posts in several places in which customers have been able to get a helpful representative to "divorce" and re-marry a card for customer who was replacing a receiver. Not commonly done but always possible.
