I've had an extra Tivo that is dead sitting around for about three months. Started reading that sometimes it is the power ribbon to the main board that may come loose. Broke out the Tivo tonight and reset the ribbon and it fired right up!

This is a great forum.

Thanks all.

I'll have to take a look at mine 2 morrow. My TIVO just went belly up after I rebooted it. now all I get is just a few more minutes......
:( I hope thats all I've got to do to get it back running.

Still NG. i tried all the other suggestions in the forum and nothing but "almost there". One last thing to try is to let it run for 24-48 hours maybe I'll get lucky. If not I'll have to run extreme again. It's prolly time to dig out those instructions again.

It sounds like my situation was different. I would not get anything from the Tivo, not even a welcome screen.

My suggestion would be to re-Xtreme your drive. I've done a couple that the PROM did not get flashed correctly. Re-Xtremeing the drives fixed it. Be sure to let the Tivo fully flash the PROM the first time you power up after Xtremeing the drive. It takes about five minutes to complete. Do not reboot at anytime. The Tivo will reboot itself which is normal.

While your at it you might was will add NOSDD and LogsNull.

Do you have a tivonet board? If so, try reseating.

No tivo board just extremed and touched. I'll let it run till tomorrow and if its not fixed I'll fire up extreme again.
time for me to check out NOSDD and LogsNull. THX

My next step was to touch my tivo, got a bash in hyperT but could not type any commands. Any ideas why?
meantime I'll try tera term thx

Now I know why everyone, well at least the gurus recommend Tera, it worked first time right outa the box. :D

You had a dead tivo that would do NOTHING when plugged in and all you did was re-extreme and it fired right up?? Mine is dead also, power light comes on but not even a "welcome" screen. I thought it must be something on the motherboard preventing it from booting.

tgun - you are having the same problem I was having. Green light, but nothing else.

Somehow the white "ribbon" power cable, not the power cable connected to hard drive, is not connecting. Remove the hard drive, then on the main board there is a ribbon connecting it to the power supply. Pull both ends out and reinsert them.

From what I've read it could have been moved by heat expansion, vibrations, etc... I'm pretty sure your Tivo will fire right up.

Thanks, the small cable was the problem with one of mine.
Greatly appreciated :)
