Somebody handed me two Phillips DTivos and said if I could fix one I could have the other.

Well the one that would not boot at all was fixed by reseating the ribbon cable from the power supply, that one's mine :D.

The other boots but hangs on the initial 'aquiring data from satellite' screen (or whatever it says, I never stick around to watch it :) )

Is this indicative of blown tuners (possible lightning strike, I've no idea where these units came from)? If so how would I test the tuners out? I'm using known good sat feeds as I simply unscrewed them from my working unit and screwed them right into the Phillips).

Or is this possibly a software problem that might be fixed by re-imaging the drives with a good image? I've no problems with trying that, it's easy enough, but I wanted to toss this one out to the crowd first.

Thanks all.

Start with a fresh install of xtreme. I had one with the same problem, a fresh install did the deed for me.

Ok, silly me. I don't need to start with a fresh extreme. I have two open boxes, one which works so I just swapped the hard drive set from that one into the one getting no sat signal.

Upon booting that up it was still stuck at 0%. I didn't realize that one could get into the Tivo menus at this point. So I checked the signal strengths and input 1 is getting no signal on any transponder and input 2 is working just fine.

So I'm guessing at this point that tuner 1 is blown/burned, something.

So any way to swap the tivo's notion of input 1 and input 2?

Anybody have any success repairing/replacing tuners?

Again, thanks in advance.

I've done a more exhaustive, i.e. more accurate search on this forum and have found several post discussing testing the voltages of the tuners. I'll start there and post my findings later.

any details?

Sry I've been distracted by the damn job thingie. :( Haven't had a chance to put a volt meter on it yet. I'll post my results soonest.
