Ok, so I have a serial cable hooked into Tivo, Ive been using it for the past year or so has been working fine. Last time I used it was probably 3 months ago.

Today I go to use it and I get nothing. I reboot Tivo, I see the bash prompt then it just goes dead. The enter key displays sort of pencil looking characters. I try all sorts of different terminal combinations and with 11500 Im able to get a prompt back but after a few key strokes it dies again, I switched it back to 9600 and get a few more then dead. Now totally dead again.

My settings are 9600 8N1 and None for flow control and Auto detect term. Anyone have any ideas? Two different PC's same behavior. Cable dying somehow? Tivo serial port dying? Wrong settings? Please help...

Are you using Terraterm?

Probably a bad solder joint in your cable making intermittent connection.

Set the serial port speed to 115200 in your terminal program (I've used Hyperterm and Tera Term Pro). Then, make sure the serial port you are using is also set to 115200 (go to device manager, right click on the port, and choose properties; set the port speed to match @ 115200). It is set to 9600 by default in Windows and may cause you some trouble.
