Hi,

I feel like I'm calling in to a radio show. Long time lurker, first time poster.

Anyway...I've got a T60 that's got an odd problem. I've seen similar symptoms posted by people but none of the resolutions I read worked.

In short, if I "soft" reboot the machine via software (three thumbs down enter or "reboot" via bash) the unit will not restart properly. It will go in a reboot loop of "Powering up..."

I tried adjusting the power supply voltage to the hard drive from 4.90 volts up to 5.4 volts and everywhere in between with no luck. I tried a different drive, different drive cable, and reseating the ribbon cable from the power supply to the motherboard. No matter what...try a soft reboot and the unit will not boot back up. It's like it doesn't see the hard drive.

What does work is unplugging the unit for a second and plugging it back in. It works EVERY time.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

J

Don't know what could cause a problem like that other than corrupted software. But just for grins try entering restart from bash.

Restart is the same as reboot.

More info: It's hardware for sure, not software. I powered the hard drive via an external source and obviously left the data cable connected to the TiVo.

Soft restart gets me into a loop. When I get the static screen while it's looping if I kill the external power to the drive for a second and then turn it back on I'll get a successful boot.

It looks like TiVo doesn't like fujitsu hard drives which is a shame because that's all I have on hand at the moment.

I'm going to pull a drive from my other unit (not fujitsu) and see if it'll reboot. If anybody else has any ideas in the meantime I'm all ears.

Thanks,

J

I had the same exact problem... I after it doing that for a week or so, I just flat died... Whenever I booted the tivo I heard 'clunk' coming from the hard drive.. Pulled it out, ran to the store and bought an 80 gig drive, reimaged it, and I have been up without a problem for a few weeks now.
