I loaded the Extreme 2.5 software on my Huges DirectTivo. All is good except it can't dial TiVo, the modem is dialing, but the service is not answering.
Do I need a Huges specific version of the Extreme 2.5 sofware? If so, where do I find that?

thanks very much in advance...

The philips version works for the hughes receiver.

It is my recommendation that you go unplug your Tivo's phone line RIGHT now because you are basically calling them and telling them you have installed a hacked OS on their hardware which they are not too fond of.

Perhaps the xtreme disables the modem's ability to talk to tivo??
In any event with the xtreme image there is no need for the phone connection to Tvio.

So with Extreme 2.5, I have to have the ethernet card?
How does it call DTV for PPVs?
I installed Extreme cause its they only way I could find to recoevr a failed drive.
Is there a non-hacked backup I could install to recover my drive?

thanks

Yes. Official images are located at:
ftp://ftp.abs.net/tivo/Backups/

I suggest you download the Hughes image from there and rebuild with that.

It does not sound like xtreme was what you wanted.....

From what I know about 2.5Xtreme, there is nothing there that should upset Tivo. 2.5Xtreme is nothing more than an image of a 2-drive Philips DTivo with the 2.5 software update to allow dual-tuner operation. There have been various utilities added to the software but none of them are illegal AFIK. Even if you set up the DTivo with a lifetime sub the unit will revert to whatever its preexisting status was prior to the upgrade when the DTivo is allowed to dial home, although I believe that if fixsub and the touch feature is implemented, the DTivo will never actually dial home. You should be able to defeat this by editing the rc.sysinit file and deleting the SubTest directory.

One observation about the link that was provided for the backup images - the Hughes image is for an older DTivo so you may want to consider using one of the Philips images instead. The only difference is that after the DTivo boots up, you'll get a Philips logo splashscreen instead of the Hughes.

OK ,thanks,
So any idea why my unit can't phone home?
If I pick up the phone I can hear the modem dial and attempt to connect but it never succesfullty complete a call.
thanks in advance...

Are you certain that your dialing properties are set up correctly?
Dial ten digit number, etc...
Is it able to make the call that downloads the phone numbers for your area?

Just some thoughts

Yes the dial props are set the same way as before I loaded extreme.
No, it can even dial the 800# to retrive the local numbers.

I can actually hear the modem negotiating with the TiVo service modems, but it never completes the connection.

thanks

Try dialing the Tivo # with your PC's modem and see if it syncs. Maybe they've got some problems in their modem bank.

Sounds like you have a "bad/dirty" phone line. Try using a different phone connection and see if it continues.

You might also try and disconnect all devices ( phones, answering machines, computers, etc...) from all of the phone connections in your home and see if it works. If it does add your devices back one by one untill you find the one that causing the problems.

Has the unit ever been able to call home?
What caused the failure of the original factory install?

The unit was able to dial in before with a long cord. After the upgrade using a shorter phone line fixed the problem (or perhaps they were having trouble on their end), nertheless it works now.
HD failure prompted the re-build.

thanks to all for your help!

I've read and read till my eyes bled, just installed 25xtreme on my t60, the tivo needs to make a call since it has been over 30days or so since last.

I did the lifetime sub using bash, but the tivo still looks like it needs to phone home.

any help, i've read and read and ended up here.

peace out

that and it can't make a call as it fails all the time. like the modem was dead and this is a yr old sys that has never been hacked, till now

Boy oh boy, I just screwed up using bash, so what any tester would do and like many of you have done was reload and try agian.. viola fixed it up big time, now i have lifetime sub...sweet
