View Full Version : Two Tivos; TurboNet; Tivo to Tivo show copying?

After a day of web searching I haven't found an answer so it's time to ask the question.

I just acquired my second SA Tivo and now (having the backup) I'mgoing to upgrade the newest with a TurboNet card and a second hard drive. If it goes well, I'll upgrade the original Tivo with the same modifications.

My question is this; if I have TurboNet cards in both Tivos, is it possible to copy recorded programs between them? I have a cable box with premium channels on the downstairs Tivo and basic cable on the upstairs Tivo. Could I record a program on the downstairs Tivo and, using the TurboNet cards and TivoFTPd, somehow "copy" the recorded program to my upstairs Tivo for later viewing?

I've found quite a bit of information about video extraction but that's not really what I'm looking for. I'd like to do something like video relocation.

Can anyone provide any insight?

Thanks in advance

I am not all that conversant with Tivo video hacking, but you may
want to take a look at playitsam, which can be found at:

Good luck.

Tom,

A tangential question: I am looking for sources to acquire a second SA Tivo -- did you get yours by mail?

Thanks for all the feedback.

I originally thought this would be a dead-end and it's awesome to know that there are two separate projects which will allow me to accomplish the Tivo to Tivo transfer. Being a web applications developer, the TivoPHP project looks especially interesting.

Durian, I picked up the 2nd SA Tivo at Circuit City Express. They had an older (and heavily discounted) floor model which they just wanted to get rid of. I had read about others finding Phillips HDR212s at KMart for $50; the two KMarts in my area didn't have any.

Again, thanks!

Tom,
Thanks for the tip, I was able to get a SA Sony floor model at Circuit City.
