View Full Version : Extreme taking forever?

Just a quick question for all you more knowledgeable than me. (I know, I know...most of you).
I just finished running 2.5xtreme on my 120GB hard drive and put the drive back in my T60. It rebooted twice and now says:
"Updating database. This will take a long time." I have now waited over two hours...should I shut it off and run xtreme again or is it not unusual for it to take this long?

I have been searching around to try and find out the answer to my question and have gone through all 8-pages of posts and still am left wondering.

Thank you all for all of your great help.

my-cool,

I am even less knowledgeable than you :D but when I xtremed my 60 gb drive it only took a few minutes to get past that stage. I'm sure someone else can give you a better timeframe but thats my experience. Not sure what you should do now, but I would wait till someone else can give you a better answer.

good luck!

I don't seem to remember that it took all that long for the database building segment to complete. I'm certain that it took a lot less than two hours. I'd wait a little longer and see if it gets past this step on its own..Otherwise, I'd recommend rerunning 2.5Xtreme

okay...I unplugged my unit and plugged it back in. took a few minutes and up it came. It said that I hadn't phoned in for a long time and the TiVo services would be unavailable until I did. I logged in through serial to bash and touched /etc/SubTest. I then rebooted the T60 and it came back up and said the same thing. Now I am rebooting it again and is seems to be locked up at just a few more seconds please. So I unplug it and wait 30-seconds...this time when I plug it back in it comes up with a green screen that says "A severe error has occured. Please leave the Receiver plugged in and connected to th phone line for the next 24 hours while the Receiver attempts to repair itself. DO NOT UNPLUG OR RESTART THE RECEIVER. If, after 24 hours, the recorder does not restart itself, call Customer Support."

Did I just ruin my new T60?

Please help.

I don't think so, but just leave it plugged in and don't connect the phone line. Then do a search for green screen of death, this should help.

I just finished re-extreming my hard drive and am currently booting up again. It is at the "Installing new software from the TiVo Service. This will take a few minutes." Screen. When it says upgrading drives I will try and bash in. I still don't quite know why it didn't work for me before.

should I install Kraven before or after I touch it for lifetime service?

Kraven's update takes care of fixsub, no need to touch.

It locked up at the Upgrading database step again. After about 10 minutes I unplugged for 30-seconds and plugged back in. I am now setting up the satellites. Hopefully I can figure out Kraven here soon.

I had bash during the upgrading database and had time to touch the SubTest...thank goodness. Now I have got a "Lifetime" subscription again!

Only problem now is I cannot get bash back. I was going to install Kraven's update. Now that I cannot access bash I am about to give up on the Kraven upgrade. I need your opinions:

Do I need to install Kraven's update or do I really need it?
