This thing is brand new out of the box, never been plugged in.
I have opened it up and removed the hard drive(35 hours recording time). It is sitting on top of the computer that I am going to use to put 25xtreme on it.
Before I begin, is there anything on the hard drive that should be backed up or is it clean??
Like I said, It's right out of the box.
Thanks,

I have one arriving Monday ... I'm going to put another drive in. Yank the original and keep as an original spare.
I'm going to build a new (BIGGER) HD with Xtreme - I may wait till the 90days..
will see.

Make a backup of the hard drive using MFSTools 2.0 and Hinsdale's How To. Read the FAQ and all of the How To's before you do anything. Otherwise you'll be back here asking how to fix your DTivo after it gets screwed up. Understand everything about what you're going to do before you do it. If you add any programs after installing 2.5Xtreme, back up your drive again. That way you can revert back to the last working configuration instead of having to start all over from scratch every time something goes wrong. Murphy's law takes precedence over everthing you may think you know about DTivo hacking. No matter how careful you are, something is likely to go haywire sometime so be prepared.

Ok there CaptainVideo:
I just tried to get the hard drive to get recognized in an IBM 400 mHz computer. Apparently, the computer will not allow me to boot up off of the cd-rom. That's a pain in the a_s.
I have a dell 8100 1.3 gig mHz. I'm sure this will work with it but its the computer I'm talking to you with right now.
The 40 gig maxtor hard drive I have here for the Tivo unit has a jumper on it set to #2. Is that correct?(I never moved it). If I'm gonna take my Dell apart I want to make sure I do this right. Do I disconnect the main hard drive. I know I have to disconnect the second cdrw. Any tips that might help me out before I do this would be great!!!
I'll print out the instructions on what to do so I can make sure I'm doing everything in the right order. Anything else you think of please let me know.

with my t60 all i had to do was take it out of the tivo unit put it in my pc on as a secondary and not as a master ( i also did not move the jumper on the maxtor drive.
I set the bios to boot off the cd and just followed the supplied doc and it went very fine..
also today, just installed my 3x8 multiswitch and now my dual tuners are up and running, now waiting to get my 120 gig this coming monday, will post on that too.
you should be fine, just follow the docs.
peace out.. `off to the 1/4 mile tonight.

The default setting for the Quantum drive's jumper is the cable select position. You will need to set this to the master position when placing it in your PC as the secondary master. Return it to the cable select position when using it as a standalone drive in your DTivo (it seems happiest there).
Leave your main drive configured as the primary master as this is where you will store the backup image (it only takes up about 125-135MB and you can burn it to a CD for long-term storage if necessary).
You're right about disconnecting the CD-RW drive if you already have a regular CD-ROM installed. Multiple CD-ROMs confuse the Linux setup during bootup and you only need one for the process anyway.
Read over the instructions for MFSTools 2.0 several times. I find it handy to highlight the sections that apply to my particular setup. It makes it easier to find what you're looking for since Hinsdale's How Tos give you options for every possible contingency.

The last thing here that I didn't mention yet is that on Monday I will receive the Tivo Air Net and the Zoom-Air Wireless Card With External Antenna. I also ordered the TiVo Null Modem Serial Cable and the Maxtor 540DX 120GB hard drive.
Should I wait for this stuff to come in first and configure everything together or can I get started with the original equipment on hand now?
And what is the BEST CONFIGURATION to have now??? I will have both the 40 gig standard hard drive and the new Maxtor 540DX 120GB??? Should I use just the one or should I use both??
Thanks,

Take the time you have before all the stuff arrives to make sure the box works as it should. It's a real pain to discover that later.
As for config, if you plan to have both the 120 and 40, you should make the 120 the A drive.
Heat is always an issue with 2 drives, these boxes have really crappy cooling. If you can live with the lesser recording time, I'd go with the 120 alone, especially if it's a 7200 RPM drive, as they run hotter.
