I have DirecTivo and am trying to go from Tivo to DVD
using only linux and OSX. I'm having some serious
audio/video sync problems that I can't seem to fix
but shuffling the auto start start a bit before
or after the video as vslip13 suggests.

It seems that as the show progresses (even on a 30 minute
show) the video gets more and more out of sync. This
is before I even do any editing.

My workflow is basically this..
1. vsplit13 (on linux)
2. Use Quicktime to convert the m2v file to DV (uncomopressed)
so I can import the video into Final Cut Pro. Converting
to DV format also fixing the 480x480 tivo mpeg to DVD
sized 720x480.
3. mpg123 to convert the .m2a file to .wav
4. Import both into FCP3, see that A/V gets out of sync as
show progresses.

Is there any sort of solution for the A?V sync issues? Anyone
able to find an editing solution using OSX? I have a windows
machine but its very very slow. I'd like to avoid using
Virtual PC too if i can.
Thanks for any pointers.

There are numerous topics in this thread on this very issue. Try the search button on just look at any of the threads with posts during the last couple of weeks. Most users here are on Windows-based playforms but there are a few diehard Linux gurus lurking about. I don't believe I have seen any posts regarding your particular method. Any sort of editing requires that you mux the m2a and m2v files back together after splitting them with either tytool or vsplit. I have never had any personal success with muxing so I pretty much gave up on it. One of our resident gurus, jdiner, is currently working on a muxing program that will permit muxing without the A/V synch issue. I have heard of some users having success using TMPGEnc for muxing. The only problem is that some muxing programs can cause degradation of the original signal if the video has to be re-encoded. I've been burning tystreams to DVDs for several months now using TyTool for extraction, DVD Patcher for patching to 720X480 resolution, and SpruceUp for authoring, compiling, and DVD burning. Nero can also be used for DVD burning if you have a newer DVD burner that's not supported by SpruceUp. Instructions for using this method are in the Video Extraction How Tos.
