I have a Sat T60 Direct Tivo unit and am trying to figure out what the best set of tools is. It seems there is some very complicated multi-step suggestions out there. I would have thought there would have been a 'workable' all-in-one solution by now as I have had my TurboNet for about a year.

I have used the latest TY Tool to pull the TY file but the latest TYConvert doesn't work well for me (has to have 'skip invalid chunks' turned on and then stops intermitantly with memory errors and the like). TivoApp looks positively WONDERFULL and the author has been awefully nice in the past. He is just real busy and so TivoApp currently, has not been updated to use TivoWeb's latest util.itcl file.

Anyway a suggestion or two would be helpfull as alot of the information I am finding in the forum looks a bit outdated.

What an awesome forum. You guys ROCK!
hip hip hooray! ok so that was lame

I have been using TyTool ever since it came out and it is by far the best and easiest method to extract and split tystreams. Using DVD Patcher and SpruceUp couldn't possibly get any easier unless it was fully automated. All of the complicated methods you speak of no doubt involve muxing and reencoding in some form or another. The only reason I can see for muxing is if you have an undying need to edit your videos. I'd rather spend all that time watching my recorded shows than using it to process a recording that I may only watch but a few times. I'm so used to skipping over commercials with my VCR remote as well as via the DTivo that it's become a way of life for me.

DVDMaestro can be set up so as to skip over commercials and create a seamless program without interruptions. SpruceUp can be used to add chapter stops at the end of commercial breaks so all you have to do is hit the skip button on your DVD player remote and it'll jump right past them. Maestro is the full-blown deal whereas SpruceUp is the no-frills version.

I am confused. DVD Patcher appears to only take one file at a time and not the ty file from ty tool. Doesn't Tytool only have the option of the ty file OR the two audio and video feeds? What then?

Patch the Video stream not the .ty file. Do a search - there's plenty of detailed instructions in the archive.

DVD Patcher only patches the 1st header of the m2v file generated when the tystream is split into its separate audio and video components. You do not need to patch the m2a audio file. When you introduce the M2v file into either SpruceUp or DVD Maestro, the video portion is processed and then the audio portion is automatically imported and processed. There is a How To DVD tutorial in the Video Extraction sticky thread that provides step by step instructions for creating DVDs from a DTivo tystream.
