Tivo or Replay TV?

Iam trying to decide what to get iam confused about the two, i liked the sonic blue replay TV the one with broadband capability the 4504. But its kinda pricey. I wanted to know whats my best bet to go with iam looking at something 40-60 hours. Something under 300 possibly.

Also if i get a use tivo or replay do i still have to pay the lifetime membership or it transfers how does that work

any one has any info please let me know.

even though this is a Tivo Hacking Board, I'll give it a shot....

If you want to be able to hack and play with the innards and pull vids from a box that will allow almost complete control of the quality, bitrate and resolution, it's Tivo. It's a hands-on approach with an open operating system and almost limitless potential.

If you want to pull vids and have no urge to open and play with your box and don't mind a little lack of resolution control, aka a few set resolution/bitrates to choose from, then it's Replay. It's a hands-off approach with an operating system
that has not yet publicly hacked with only remote access to downloading vids via the built in ethernet port.

If you have no urge at all to hack or pull vids from your chosen pvr, then your asking in the wrong place.

Thanks for the info, i saw the general tivo forum dead so i posted in here i dont want to pull any kinda vids or any kinda hacking just plain simple tivo or replay

but i will check out the other links you posted
