eBay has series 2s - are we close to a hack yet?

I see series 2 DTiVos for sale on eBay right now. Are we close to a hack for the series 2? I'd sure like to read up on this - if there is a site I can go to where there is a discussion please point me to it.

well, since no one here has a s2 dtivo yet, its hard to start hacking them. the s2 dtivos up there now are beta units, so i would be careful about bidding on them

once the s2 units are in the wild en masse, we should be able to make reasonably quick work with them. At this point, unless we can find a security flaw in the units, it looks like we will have to solder on a new prom with hacked code, since the one included on the unit is not flashable (at least on most of the SA s2 tivos).

Not flashable.
That makes things rather intresting.
Not flashable means no prom (ROM) updates.
That closes a hole (or opens one depending on how you look at it).
Replace the rom with a custom prom and things get rather intresting!

Hopefully CC gets back into the DTiVo buisness so I can use my 5 year over the counter warranty to replace one of my not yet broken S1 DTiVo's for an S2.

Check out the thread on the pre-orders for HNS HDVR2 from CC on the AVS Dtivo forum. It looks like they will be carrying the new series 2 Hughes DTivo.

Try tivocommunity They have a large thread about pre-ordering from CC. If you dig deep enough, you might even be able to pre-order for about the same price as when the series 1 DTIVO's first came out.

hey vadim, this is matt from FL, just wanted to let you and the rest of the ppl know that yesterday night 2 weird tivos came into our warehouse at CCity. The Model was DTIVO i blieve, retail price: $399. I know nothing about tivos, but i assume this is the series 2???? Just to let you know, they are availble w/o a preorder as far as i know. (when manager saw them he was like WTF are these)

I just got my hdvr2 from electronic express.com. I love it. I couldnt wait for CC to get it in so I canceled my preorder.

Which hacks? Any luck with a hack to change the CAMID range check (ie: something less than 5.4x10*8)?
