I reset my Tivo, Reset meaning went to system reset and selected the last option, delete and clear everything. After I this was complete I can't setup the tivo. During the step to make the first call and get the access numbers it does the prepare step, gives it a check, puts a check next to dialing but does that and immediately goes to connecting, then is on connecting for about 3-5 sec and says 'Failed. Service Unavailable'. I also notice through out this whole thing that the yellowish-green light that use to show up when dialing no longer is working. Anyone else have this problem. I hope that the modem isn't fried.
Thanks

Failed to mention that I have Turbonet installed on this too. Put in the original drive (kept it on the shelf for such an occasion) and it too does not dial. Pulled the Turbonet card out and now it does get to the dialing point and the light comes on, so it is seeing the modem now and dialing, not fried, thank you.
So my new question is, how do I enable the modem with the turbonet card in there?
I pay for the service and don't mind so I want the modem to work, I just use the Turbonet to pull the streams off and thats it. I've done some searching and haven't found anything yet.
Thanks

Since it's been two years, I can only assume you've found a solution, but I encountered this when rebuilding my TiVo so thought I would chime in for others who walk this path.
I chose not to go the Xtreme route due to the locals problems, and am fortunate to have a virgin 2.0 image for my DSR6000. I installed from the image and installed the Cachecard software before letting the TiVo upgrade itself.
The result? Exactly what you described.
The resolution? Rebuild the virgin unit, let it upgrade itself to 3.1. Then install Cachecard.
It seems that the Cachecard software and/or hardware disables the internal modem when running on 2.0 OS.

In the driver installation program, there is an option to set whether you want your daily call to occur using the network or using the phone.

putting ",#401" (quotes not inclusive) in the dialing prefix makes the update go through the Internet.

That only works with version 3.0 and above. For versions <3.0, you have to set up the networking via the turbonet/cachecard/tivonet installation program.
