All of the Xtreme related files were moved from www.hu-emu.com to the Xtreme section of www.PitouDistro.com. We are also very pleased to have SuperZap's Xtreme 2.52 for Philips as well.

What exactly is SZ's 2.5.2 anyway? It has a .MFS extension. Is it an mfstools backup, or some other format?

Thanks

is it possible to upgrade from 2.5.1 to 2.5.2 with this software image without losing all my recorded programming.

The image for the Sony T60 available on hu-emu.com is version 2.5.1.
it is not the latest 2.5.2 version.

Thanks It's a mfstool's 40GB image for a DSR6000 pending restart to install v2.5.2. It contains the same stuff that v25xtreme contains except it will not flash the prom (since it is assumed that this image will be used to upgrade from v25xtreme). I have a bootable cd, but I can't figure out how to make an iso image, so for now you can use the d6k252x1.mfs image as follows:

Note: you will lose all hacks, recordings, settings, etc.
1. download the d6k252x1.mfs file to your C: drive root directory.
2. boot from the v25xtreme cd.
3. with DSR6000 A drive in PC enter commands to restore image:
mkdir /dos
mount /dev/hda1 /dos
/mfstools-1.0/mfstool restore -zi /dos/d6k252x1.mfs /dev/hdX
(where X= "b" if Primary Slave, "c" if Secondary Master, "d" if Secondary Slave)
4. if you need to run DirecTivoMad enter:
/bin/bash /maddtb4/setupcd.sh
5. put drive back into DSR6000 and let it boot and run Clear and Delete Everything to reset error #51.
6. add your favorite hacks, KRavEN upgrade, xPlusz, etc.

Just asking - but if I have 2.5 running fine, why would I want to do the 2.5.2 upgrade?

Justin_Thyme:

Can we use the ver. 2.52 with a Sony T60?? If not, any idea if a version for the T60 is soon coming?

Thanks,

You can use it on the T60 but you will need to use a DSR6000 remote and all of the screens will read Phillips instead of Sony.

Correction: You used to need to do that :D

heres some info for changing the units remote codes:

I uploaded a T60 version to the site mentioned by Justin. The instructions are the same as the DSR6000, but the file name is t60252x1.mfs and should be on the site soon.

Justin or SZ, do you know the history of t60252x1.mfs ?
As in, was extreme 2.5 installed them up'd to 2.5.2? Or is it a 'virgin'?

Were any hacks installed on it? Is 2.5.2 already installed or is it 'pending'?

Thanks mucho for the image! I've been very frustrated with the video freeze bug.

Edit: Duh, RTFF right? :) I see from it's a xtreme2.5 install that's been updated with 2.5.2
Thanks again!

I was also curious about this. I just got 2.5 running (no kraven update yet, but I get my turbonet card next week.) I do have a philips and was wondering what improvements have been added with the SZ's 2.5.2 version???

If there is a readme or change log etc. just let me know where to get it. I don't need to be spoon fed, but an indication of where the food is would be great. :)

Thanx.

Both the DSR6000 and T60 images are not based on v25xtreme.
The DSR6000 image came from a box that had v2.0 (40 GB) on it from factory, was upgraded to v2.5 via TiVo service download and then to v2.5.2 same way. The image is pending restart and when booted, v2.5.2 will be installed on root partition 7.
The T60 image came from a box that had v2.5 (40 GB) on it from factory, was upgraded via the TiVo service download to v2.5.2. The image is pending restart and when booted, v2.5.2 will be installed on root partition 4.
There are no improvements other than what came on the original v25xtreme, i.e., file access mods to rc.sysinit and TClient-lib.itcl for fixsub, bash enabled at 9600 and some misc programs like ls, head, tail, chattr, etc. You must have a reflashed prom to use, othrewise you will just get an unmodified v2.5.2.

It sounds like there's NO xtreme mods on there but then you say that everything IS there if the prom is flashed to allow hacking?

Thanks.. I was aware of that fact but was confused because it sounded like these images were "fully legit" (i.e. no hacks, extra files/mods, etc.) but I guess they really are "xtreme-ed" and, on boot-up, will act as such if the prom is flashed and will act as normal/legit updates with no hacks otherwise... Right? :)

You are correct, with one clarification: it won't boot if you have a v2.0 prom ;)

Please help this newbie----------

I have done a lot of reading first, but I must have missed the details on the PROM.

How do you flash the prom, and when is it necessary?

If I use Extreme or the new 2.5.2 mfs file above, and prepare a new hard drive with above for insertion into my virgin 2.5.2 TIVO, will I need to worry about the PROM?

Can the PROM be put back to original if I want to later reinstall the original factory drive?

Thanks

getprom -Update /prom/TiVoProm_2.05.bin
although it shouldn't be necessary, the hacked prom will work ok with any v2.5 or v2.5.2 software.

Superzap;

I loaded Xtreme25, the T60 ran fine. I then pulled the drive, and restored your T60 image. Unit boots up but says that the TIVO service is not activated, so I tried to "Clear & Delete" to reboot, but it keeps asking for the parental control password. I tried the easy ones like 0000, 1234, etc.

Any idea what it is set for on this image?

Also, the locals seem to be for SF; What is the best way to change it?

Thanks for your help so far!

Remove the access card. Go to the System Reset menu, last item Clear and delete everything and run that. It will take over an hour.

I removed the card, and that worked!

Now the only problem is that my P4 card still has a PG13 rating and is locked when I re-insert it into the IRD, and I do not know the password. :(

I guess a call to D to have them reset it will be my next step.

Thanks again SZ!

FYI anyone using the t60 image

Tried pulling the access card to perform clear and delete and that did not work for me. I used a card with a known password on it and it did not take that either. Upon reading the card, I discovered that the password had been changed to 2180.

Did clear and delete, entered password 2180 and worked.

botcher
12-02-2002, 11:15 PM
Thanks for posting the 2180 code. Hopefully it will save someone the aggravation. Unfortunately, I have a P4 legit sub, so I could not "read" the card. Maybe someday!

Anyway, DTV was kind enough to reset it for me in seconds.

Thanks SZ for your efforts. I really appreciate your efforts in the TIVO hack hobby.

hi everyone i want to upgrade my tivo to 2.52 I have been using the 25 xtreme all in one cd and it has worked wonders for me considering i am a total noobie when it comes to linux. I downloaded the msf image to my pc. The problem i am running into is how do i get the 130 meg image over to my tivo drive so i can use the mfstools utility to reload the image. Thanks for any info.....Quartermiler

See the instructions here ===> http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=70730#post70730
You leave the image on your C: drive which is hda1 to linux. I know it works for FAT32 but not sure if your drive is NTFS.
As an alternative, you might be able to burn the image to cd. In fact you should be able to add it to the bootable linux cd iso if you select "Don't Finalize Session" or "Don't Finalize CD" when burning the iso and then burn the mfs image on the next session.

botcher
12-03-2002, 06:11 PM
Yes, an NTFS Win XP pro machine worked for me just fine. Make sure the Windows C drive is cabled as Primary Master, the Tivo drive is set as Primary Slave, and your CD drive is set as Secondary Primary. I had a Secondary slave CDRW drive which I had to disconnect in order to see the other drive successfully with MFS2.0, for what it is worth.

I just saved the T60252 image to the C:\ root directory after downloading it via the net, then disconnected my CDRW(per above), and connected the new TIVO 120GB drive (per above).

Worked like a champ. Just pay attention to the parental lock issue as mentioned above; now that we know the code the image places on the access card, it is no big deal to unlock and change it if needed.

Has anyone had a problem restoring SZ's 2.5.2 image to their stock 40g drive? I can restore the 25xtreme image to the drive no problem but when I try to restore the 2.5.2 image I keep getting the error "Restore Failed: Backup target not large enough for entire backup by itself."

This is the command line I am using;

mfstools restore -zi t60252x1.mfs /dev/hdc

hdc is the stock dtivo drive that will remain the A disc.

Ok, I've decided to get a new 120gb HD and increase the hours on my DTivo. I want to make sure I've read everything correctly and have the correct order of installing everything.

1. 25Xtreme
2. SZ's 2.5.2 upgrade
3. Kraven's Hacks
4. XplusZ

This will give me lifetime sub, bash prompt, noppv, mvchannels, showcases, etc?

Correct?

So I have a question... From what I am reading, it sounds like I literally have to pull my HD out of my Tivo again to upgrade from 2.5 to 2.5.2... Is this really the case? Is there no way to upgrade via the serial cable?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

ok but that's an iso, which leads me to believe i need to burn it to a cd... does that sound right to you given i want to do this upgrade without pulling my HD out of my tivo?

or am i just booting my current pc directly to this cd and then talking to the tivo through it? i am confused because i thought i was merely copying files over to the tivo through teraterm...

sorry to keep wasting your time... i do appreciate the help... i have been reading like crazy, but it's hard to organize a lot of this info.. thanks again.

I don't have a magic bullet for getting your locals, each situation seems to be a little different. There is plenty of info in recent threads about problems and remedies.

Here's some of what you can try:
Make sure the local byte, zip code and guide byte is correct, and wait at least 24 hours.
Go to the Reset menu and do the Clear Program Data & To Do List function.
Run the midupdate.tcl script.
Run the xPlusz #60 command.

snoopy

Are the commands explained in any greater detain anywhere than in that readme file??

Could you explain the noppv option #3 and #20?
Could you explain #60 in greater detail?
