I read all over the place and have my dtivo up and running. I am trying to do Kraven upgrade now.

Success first time out I hope!

I cant seem to get kraven's upgrade.tar over to tivo

I type and get the following:

bash-2.02# rz send upgrade.tar
rz: garbage on commandline
Try `rz --help' for more information.

what am I doing wrong?

Sounds like you got it worked out, but you type rz at bash, then wait until the request opens the dialog box in Teraterm, then designate the file to send.

You have to send the file using Zmodem protocol via TeraTerm. You don't really need to type rz beforehand as it doesn't seem to make any difference with the DTivo. Open up TeraTerm and connect to your DTivo via serial port. Pull down the File menu at the top and select Transfer|ZMODEM|Send and then browse for the file you want to transmit. Click on the file and it should transfer to your Tivo drive, albeit somewhat slowly through the serial port.

To answer your original question:

tail will print the last 10 lines (I think its 10 by default) of any file.

example:

tail rc.sysinit

->will show you the last 10 lines of the rc.sysinit file.

happy tailing!

"tail" is slang for a particular type of "trim" :)
