last week i bought a Philips HDR-212 and have since installed a TurboNet card. i got it working for guide updates, and also have telnet, ftpd, and tivoweb working on the machine.

continuing on to the main reason i bought a tivo, i turned to video extraction. first, i extracted with TivoApp (no errors getting the ty stream) but attempting conversion to mpeg with either tivoapp or tyconvert cause program crashes and the like. i then tried extracting with extractstream, mfs_stream, sendstream, and tytools, and converting with zss and tytools. nothing is working. when i try zss, it seems all the data gets slammed into a "bad" file, making me think that my ty stream is corrupt or something? here is a snip from the zss log file:

-----------------------
Estimated audio delay from first video -125.077778 ms
Estimated audio delay from earliest video -58.333333 ms
Video Sequence number bogus 300ff0!=234410 at chunk 6 record 71 last audio time 00:00:01.403 last video time 00:00:01.568
Bad Sequence, Chunk 6.
last audio time 00:00:01.403 last video time 00:00:01.568
last bad chunk: 6404
last audio time 00:00:01.403 last video time 00:00:01.568
Total number of Chunks processed: 6405
Chunk 1432 had the most records with: 108
Chunk 6404 had the least records with: 15

Total number of audio frames output: 40
Total number of video frames output: 137

-----------------------

again, this makes me think the problem is the ty stream. but is the problem in the ty stream which is in the tivo, or the extraction process somehow?

please somoeone please throw me a bone. any more information i can give which may be helpful, don't hesitate to request it.

thanks in advance, i know u guys can figure this one out =]

Um, "and the like" means...?

i then tried extracting with extractstream, mfs_stream, sendstream, and tytools, and converting with zss and tytools.

Try extracting with tytools, "tystream mode", not "Vsplit mode", skipping the first 100 or even 1000 chunks, then use Joshua's latest vsplit13 on it.

Try, too, some other show. Good luck!

Do the following:

Use my TyTool app and re-download the show in TyFile mode.

Then use either the splitter in it, or the lastest vsplit release from the #2 sticky thread in this forum.

Then post the output from the program. Then someone can help you. To just say "it is failed" provides no where near enough information in general.

Avoid TivoApp and Tyc and ZSS and other tools. They are older and fail. Them failing is the reason I created what I did.

"the like" are application exemptions

for some reason, i can no longer download w/ tytool. i can however download w/ tivoapp, and then i tried processing the streams w/ tytool on 2 shows

here is the tytool info for the first show:

i'm guessing that the first one processed fine and perfect? what does all that mean for the 2nd one tho?

one other thing to mention is that some shows i recorded while i had v1.3 software and before i modified anything in the tivo, then the next set (including these 2) were recorded with v3.0 software and all the hack/export stuff installed. could this have anything to do w/ the problem?

i'm not able to mess w/ it much this weekend (thanksgiving and all) but i'll be checking back here as much as possible. at this point i am even considerng resotring the tivo to factory defaults and starting over. think that might do the trick? =]

Sounds serious

for some reason, i can no longer download w/ tytool.

Then you have worse problems than just unsplittable tystreams. Again, I've no idea how to repair "some reason", short of re-booting both your PC and tivo. My gut reaction is to treat anything on the tivo as fine, and anything installed on the pc as in need of a re-install.

That's how mine used to look, too.

Joshua's going to have to explain this.

My guess, too. TMPGEnc will tell you for sure.

at this point i am even considerng resotring the tivo to factory defaults and starting over.

Understandible, but with little chance of changing what tytool is doing with the streams.

Good luck!

John,
Who himself suddenly can't get TMPGEnc to process any vsplitted tystream without bizarre exception errors that look like buffer overruns.

This one went fine. But if you are not looking at the output you would have no idea.

This really should not be happening. But they are warnings... Have you looked for and read the specs on the output here on the forum. They do no indicate complete failure. This process has been further enhanced in the latest version of VSplit and it now deals with them much better.

But at least test the output...

Hi Jdiner

I get exactly the same error message as the above regarding no PTS values, and also an error message at the same points if I extract using mfs-stream and tydemux instead of tytool. The output in both cases goes blocky at the offending points. The same video seems to play fine on the Tivo.

This does only seems to occur on some programs / channels others are fine.

This is with a UK Tivo by the way.

One other thing, I'm slightly confused as to how to use the audio offset that comes out at the end of the process. I use Ifoedit to master the DVD from the m2v and m2a files and I'm never sure if the value I type in for an audio offset should be negative or positive to represent audio playing early or late if anyone knows the answer please let me know.
