Hi8:
How do you modify the SVR 2000s?

Here's the best things to do, to get started:
1. read the Hinsdale how-to over at http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hinsdale-how-to/ . take a break, and re-read the areas specifically for the Sony TiVo.
2. order a TurboNet adapter and card from http://www.9thtee.com and wait patiently for it to arrive
3. order a 120 GB Maxtor 5400 RPM IDE hard disk drive at the best price (about $150 or so) you can find it new, and wait patiently for it to arrive.
4. while you're waiting patiently, read the instructions and search for download links over at 9thtee.com, and download either the TivoNet floppy image, or Kazymyr's Boot CD image. make either a Linux bootable CD or boot floppy to hack in your hard disk and TurboNet card, when they arrive.
5. re-read the Hinsdale how-to, just in case . . .
that should be plenty to get you started. hope this helps :D :D

Goto ftp.abs.net/tivo/backups and download a SVR2000 1.3 image then restore that to your drive and you should be able to use your Tivo as a manual VCR w/o a subscription.
Jamekya,
I had the same problem.
Only way around that is to Xtreme your unit (your post didn't mention which model you have but maybe an SVR2000) and touch it. I know this works for my DTivo Sony, not sure about the SVR2000.
That will allow you to use your Tivo as it is meant to assuming you get DSS.

Thanks for all the comments.
Just to clear some stuff up. The unit is a Sony SVR 2000.
I think it is still at 1.3 (I'll verify).
I modified the boot params so it comes up without the guided setup but it cusses about no channel data and reboots when I try anything.
Some sites tell me about using net card and subbing it.
Incidentally I have a SAT-T60 DTivo all touched up and that works fine.

Ok no answers to this yet so this is what I am going to do, tell me what you all think.
1. Subscribe to Tivo Monthly
2. Get TurboNet board from 9thTee
3. Install board and config Tivo for Ethernet Updates
4. Keep Connected to internet (DSL)
