View Full Version : STRANGE mvchannels issue - AlphaWolf / Anyone?

I just reloaded my locals using mvchannels, letting all channels stay in the 0-99 range as I have always done. This time, though, I included channel 22, MPT. I run mvchannels, everything is dandy. Check out the guide, all looks fine, until I get down to channel 22. The channel shows up with the generic "To Be Announced" guide information, but there is nothing under the channel 22 entry in the guide. I mean NOTHING. I can hit channel down through several blank pages in the guide below channel 22, and see nothing (not even the guide's grid...NOTHING), the use channel up to flip through the same number of blank pages until I get back to channel MPT22. If I start the guide on channel 30, the same thing happens in reverse.

Anyway, I removed MPT, and all is well now. But, my questions are:

1 - WTF is MPT22?
2 - Why does it make the guide act this way.

Just a weird thing, not a problem for me...just curious. TIA for any information.

Read this (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14759) thread and this (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12352) one too.

The problems you mention here are due to the duplicate channel numbers. You have to adjust channels.dat so each channel has its own number or the problem will not go away. This seems to be what you want me to see, BubbleLamp? I appreciate the reply, but I have to say that I don't think the use of duplicate channel numbers in itself is the root of the problem. I have been running multiple markets in the 0-99 range with duplicates on just about every channel for just about a year now. This is the first problem I have had, and the only channel that it happens with. Not trying to bite the hand that feeds me, just looking for answers.

MPT22 is Maryland Public Television and it serves both the Baltimore and Washington metroplotian areas which is why there are two different listings for it. I've got it set up on two different DSR6000s with mvchannels. ONe displays the guide in exactly the way you described. The other displayes the guide as a continuous list of channels with no break. When you use the guide with the missing channels, simply enter the channel number that is the next higher (or lower, depending on which way you're navigating), and the channel list will reappear with all channels on the other side of channel 22. It's a strange anomaly that only seems to occur with ch 22. You might try using channel 978 instead of channel 980 in the channels.dat file. It seems to work better using this channel.

I've been doing some playing around, wondering, testing, and then more wondering..

I never paid too much attention to try and get locals outside my legit-subed locals... until now.

If I can't so be it, I was just looking to do something and decided this was something to learn about.

anyway, I'm one of the lucky one's I guess that get my locals on the 119 sat. (hartford CT) Need a PLUS reciever to get them.... I did alot of reading on mvchannels, and selectlocals and ran them with some succes...

I'm still confused on what does what, what I should expect to recieve.

I was under the impression that mvchannles is used just to move the locals up to the 900s so there is no conflict with channels numbers 0-99.

So I ran selectlocals.tcl NY to add the NY locals to my channels list which it did, and I get guide data.. but I get the call ext.721 without any channel video. I'm hoping I can just wait overnight and they will be there... But I'm guessing that my reciever needs to be authorized for the NY spotbeem or transponders - and because I'm using the 119 does that mean I won't be able to recieve them (NY channels) ??

well, after an overnight wait ... none of the NY channel/locals I added came in ... guide data and they were still in my channels list; but still had the ext 721 prompt ...

oh well..

I had another observation, when I ran selectlocals.tcl HT to reset my channels back to what I subscribe to, I noticed that at the end of the list, during the execution - a bunch of channels were being checked that were identified by their call letters only. How are they used ? I tried adding one of them from my local list, and it did get added to it's correct channels number (30) WVIT and the HT30 was also still there, but when I tried to change to that channel , it changes the banner for a split sec.. then reverts back to the HT30 label, and when it displayed the video for the WVIT channel it was black.

anyone understand why there is that duplication? here is a dump of the last part of the script...
