Send it to the actual root directory (/root)

Not to put too fine a point on it, but it's / (as in cd /), not /root, which does not exist. :D

Damn! I knew that :o As I was typing it, I was thinking to myself that I might want to leave the (/root) part out, but on second thought, I thought that I remebered seeing it before. :(

By my count I see that you have about 7 or 8 new threads that you have posted in the last 2 days. This tells me that you're not doing your homework before you ask a question. Most of your questions have been answered before and are either in the FAQ or the How To's section. I think you need to take some time to do some reading before taking up everyone's time with questions that have already been answered before. Learn to use the search function. Have your results displayed as posts instead of threads and you'll find the answers you're looking for without a lot of extra reading. We're more than happy to help you out but a little effort on your part goes a long way.

Sorry, but that many posts in such a short period of time has got to be a new record in this forum. I can assume that you either haven't done enough research (I know there's a ton of posts to search through, we've all been there) or you're in way over your head.
Case in point:
1. Kraven's update questions - the installation instructions are in a sticky at the top of the thread. More info is contained in the FAQ that answers several of the questions you asked. There are also countless threads about the subject.
2. Missing /var/hack directory - covered in the FAQ. The hack.zip file is located in the How Tos only thread for downloading.
3. Plugging turbonet card into your DSL - Basic networking question and reflects how much of a newbie you are in this area, not that it's a bad thing (we were all newbies once ourselves). Lots of info about TurboNet in the FAQ and tons of threads and posts on the subject if you used the search button.
I point these things out because, as I said, I was a newbie once myself and I know how frustrating it is to have to wade through all of the material in this forum. It's easy to get lost in a hurry. That's why I developed the FAQ and why others have posted info in the sticky threads at the beginning of the forum. The bulk of the work has already been done for you. It's up to you to put a little effort into this hobby to make it work. Next time try using the search button to actually research your question before posting. You give the impression that it's easier to simply ask than do the work. If I'm off base here then I apologize. I can only go by the evidence placed before me. As I said, if you've exhausted all possibilities and don't know where else to turn, then by all means, ask away. I certainly don't mind helping but the number of questions you're posting leaves me with the impression that you just don't want to be bothered with doing the research.

No offense at all defsrg, but I must agree with captain_video. I would normally be the last person to point out that someone is asking to many questions because I have definitly asked my fair share, but you are asking to many questions without trying to find the answer first. This thread is a perfect example.

You were able to find the answers to both of your questions on your own within about 20 minutes of posting.
Last night, the 5 or 6 most recent posts on the board were all questions from you. If you have that many questions that fast you are not putting in enough research. As captain_video said, there is nothing wrong with asking questions, just make an attempt to find stuff out on you own first. Good luck.

well no offense to either of you but just so you all know i have a stack of papers on my desk a mile high filled with post old and new that i use to either learn or refer back to. i do my homework trust me,i am the father of 3 and work about 60 hours a week so when i undertake a new project like video extraction which is what i am doing now my time is usually quite limited to get it done so if it seems like i am posting too much i apologize. i am not a newbie when it comes to tivo hacking but as u said captain i am not that familiar with networking, never had any use for it until now when i found all the quality i lost capturing video with my video card, which brings me to my current dilemma of learning to install the turbonet card and getting it functional to use the tytool.however in my posting i did manage to help out another person who was having problems like mine through my own question post, so i guess it wasn't a complete waste.

I think the best advice is don't give up defsrg, just slow down. Those in a hurry make the most mistakes. Nobody minds helping those who help themselves, but we all get tired of those looking to be spoonfed. (I'm not saying you fit that, but you get my drift.)

Bubblelamp makes a valid point. I see by the nature of your numerous posts that you appear to be trying to do everything to your DTivo at once. Patience is the key here. You need to tackle only one task at a time, reasearch it thoroughly and make sure you understand what you're getting into before you attempt it. It seems like you're jumping in over your head and getting totally lost right out of the gate. It's difficult to play catch up and try to figure out what got screwed up when you didn't understand what you were doing in the first place. I spent over four months lurking in this forum before I ever attempted my first DTivo upgrade, and I already had experience upgrading SA Tivos and ReplayTVs. I didn't post my 1st question until several months after I had a working DTivo because I had done my homework before I jumped in. You might want to take a step back and regroup. Get one thing working before you jump into the next phase. It's usually a good idea to make backups of your drive at regular intervals so it's easier to get back to a working configuration if something goes south on you. Make sure your DTivo is running smooth and stable before going to the next step.
