ive managed to install my turbo net card successfully i think.now what i do not understand to i need to run the cat5 cable out of it or can i continue to use my serial cable i have always used to access my bash??? also as far as pinging there is no way to get a DOS prompt on windows xp professional while windows is running unless you make a boot disk. is there another way to ping or no? thanx

As far as a Dos prompt.
You can type "cmd" in the run ( start button then run) dialog box and you will get a command prompt window. From there you can ping, telenet etc..

Yes you need to run cat five out of the tivo and connect it to your network.

You can still get a bash prompt over the serial cable after you install the Turbonet card. You can also get a bash promt via the Turbnet card as well.

k so let me ask this now, can i plug my turbonet card into my dsl and use it that way or no??

If you have a DSL/cable modem router with multiple ports you can connect your DTivo to the router. If you do you may want to set up the filters on the router to block the IP address assigned to the DTivo so it doesn't have access to the internet and inadvertantly call home, resulting in an unwanted software update.
