I am running extreme (2.5.1) I am about to upgrade HD. Does anyone think it pay to update to 3.1. Drive will be in computer so it's an opportunity to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Alternatively is there a way to hack the upgrade before the system reboots? Someone had posted mounting the alternate parition and applying the hacks before the machine reboots.

Based on post from pgm it sounds like I can grab the upgrade from the stream.

If you can get v3.1 to install over the stream let us know how you did it. I would wait a while, there's not much in v3.1 except program listing sort, big deal.

The sorting is nice, but what I would want from 3.1 is the snappier channel input/changes and guide. That's about it though (so far).

The menus are noticeably faster, but not by a whole lot. Also, skip to tick works if you have 30 second skip enabled.

Thanks for the replies, it sounds like I'll just add the 120 HD. It doesn't sound like there is enough extra to be worth the trouble.

i agree. if you have a stable 2.5.2 installation, there is no real need to upgrade. shoot, i wasn't even planning on upgrading until my /var partition got corrupted.

changes i have noticed:
menus slightly faster
sorting
unification of code base for all tivos (not important for everyone, just an observation)
directv control/branding stuff
DHCP, but I use a static IP anyway
