ok did my reading still stuck

i got my turbo net installed ,assigned the ip address, pinged it everything looked good until...... i went to transfer NowShowing.tcl and tserver_mfs5. i went into the configuration settings on terterm changed the binary option to on as thats the way it's suppose to be sent. went back to teraterm got a bash prompt using the ip address i assigned to the tivo,which is a good thing i think, typed cd /var/hack, clicked on send file from the toolbar twice, once for each file i needed to send, the log said they were sent but when going into the /var/hack directory to chmod 777 them they are not there. is there something i missed here like a setting in the terterm settings? or am i still suppose to use the z modem option with the whole rz command,which doesn't make alot of since because i thought one of the advantages of turbonet was so you didn't have to do that.i have kravens update installed so i should have eveything i need,so this one has me confused and i haven't seen a similiar problem like it in the posts so i think i missed something.i am so close to finishing this i can taste it!! thanx

Zmodem transfers don't work over Ethernet, you need to run the ftp daemon on the Tivo and an FTP client. If you need to use Zmodem, (like to get the ftp daemon over to the Tivo) do it over the serial connection instead.

yeah that's what i figured so thats why i used just the send file option above the transfer option on the toolbar but i can't find the transferred files is the problem. i guess i could send them with the z modem using the serial connection but i m not sure if that sends them binary or not.

let me ask you this if i can,if i connect to my tivo using teraterm and the tivos ip address i assigned to it does that mean i am automatically connected with ftp daemon or no, is there another command i have to perform to get there maybe that's why i cant find my transferred files? thanx

When sending over Zmodem you don't have to worry about Binary/ASCII. ftp is completely different, and requires the ftp daemon to be started on the Tivo before you can connect using ftp on your PC. You need to use an ftp client, I'm not sure if TeraTerm is, I don't use it myself.

Just having an IP address gives you nothing, much. Time to read some more. ;)

problem solved for all those reading downloaded and used Cuteftp. nifty program just saved me tons of time!!!now on to the tytool reading again
