intermittent "Cannot load kernel" message

I recently purchased a Sony T-60 with 2 hard drives. After recording ~ 35 hours, the unit freezes up while displaying the message "Cannot load kernel". After leaving it unplugged for a period of time, it reboots fine and stays on for ~1/2 hour and then freezes up again with the same message. I then proceeded to delete 10 hours of shows and the unit now works fine (I haven't tried going over the 35 hour mark again). My theory is that the 2nd hard drive is somehow malfunctioning. The unit definitely recognizes the 2nd drive (the System Information screen displays 130 hours).

Anyone had something similar happen ?

I plan on reformatting 2nd drive and then re-applying 2.5Extreme.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It does sound like a drive is bad / over heating. You may want to run the manufacturers low level diagnostics on each of those drives while you have them out of the tivo.
