Then take your/(one of your) newly acquired large hard drive and configure the jumpers to Slave (see diagram on drive or drive documentation) and connect this drive to the Primary Slave IDE connector in your PC.

(Quote is from Hinsdale's How to.)

I would like to back up only the original Tivo A drive. How do I go about this???

If I ingnore this the quote above, do I still set this drive up as Secondary Master and continue with the instructions as they are??

Thanks,

You can hook the Tivo drive to anything but Primary Master. You just need to be sure to jumper it correctly for where it's connected, and substitute the correct drive letter for the X.

hdX

X=b Primary Slave
X=c Secondary Master
X=d Secondary Slave

I think it's extreme that has a problem with the drive being primary master.

I just did an upgrade with Tivo drive primary master, new 120 G dirve primary slave CDROM secondary master. I booted off MSTOOLS 2.0 and did a backup-restore. No problems. After about a week I intend to use MFSADD to put the other drive in my Tivo.

In fact one of the of the upgrade examples requires you to use a boot floppy and use all 4 channels (replacing 2 drives and keeping your recordings.)
