MPEG2 Cutter ?

OK. No one will give me a satisfactory answer.

Apparently, TMPGENC seems to mux my vsplit files FINE.

However, when I cut them to get a small snippet of video/audio, it loses it's sync significantly.

What should I use?

iFilmEdit doesn't seem to actually exist, and MPEG2VCR (the mpeg2 version, not the mpeg1 version) is very hard to come by.

What are you guys using to simply trim mpeg2 muxed output ?


Is there something I'm missing in all the reading I've done? It seems that most folks are concentrating on DVD. I can probably go that way, but I really just wanted to use a small 3 minute segment on a David Letterman show on a friends web site.

Any suggestions ?

I edit out commercials with tmpg just fine, no sync problems, so i dont know what to tell ya.

you might be re-encoding it, of course that will keep sync.

not sure about that, i just extract from the tivo, mux with tmpg, cut it, and thats it.

Do you still have the TY file? If so, that 3 minute clip is
easy to get with vsplitmux-1n and the -j and -l options

I have just started in the world of extraction, but so far tmpgenc has not failed me in the sync department.
There is no re-encoding/transcoding just go to File, MPEG tools, and hit the merge and cut tab.
