He was also telling me about the UTV+X-box combo which is under development. Just thought I would shaire the Info.

You might be on to something there. It seems quite likely that the two platforms i.e. utv + x-box would have some shared development. There has been a strong effort over at soundforge to port linux over to the x-box and as a result much of the rom structure, bootloader, etc are fairly well described.

For instance the utv rom seems to have some basic encryption on it, which may well be the RC-4 variant described here (http://www.xenatera.com/bunnie/proj/anatak/xboxmod.html#rom). There is also information available on the bootloader structure over at soundforge (http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/articles.php?aid=2002194020413).

Here is a description of the x-box hdd lock algorithm (http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/articles.php?aid=2002224023814). I would not be the least bit surprised if the implementation was the same on our utv's. Here is a method to unlock (http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/down/The%20Middle%20Message-1a.pdf) the drive.

It's my understanding that the XBox hardware was designed at Microsoft's Bay Area campus, where WebTV is located. (I got this information directly from a WebTV employee around the time of the XBox launch.) It would make sense to get people involved in the XBox project who already had experience with set-top boxes. So, I would expect quite a few similarities.
