Updating my Phillips with the Kraven update sent the file to Tivo but step 4 went wrong I get "upgrade.tar.gz: No such file or directory". Typed in ls -l / and I can see the file there but the name has been shortened to "upgrad~1.gz"

For step 4 I tried typing upgrad~1.gz in as the file name and it seemed to work I got bash so I went onto step 5 and typed
bash-2.02# cpio -i -H tar -d -F upgrade.tar and then got the following error cpio: upgrade.tar: No such file or directory

Now when I type ls -l / the file name has further shortened to upgrad~1 with no extension. I've read and I've searched and haven't found anything on the names automatically changing. Please advise.

Thanks

Your file name got shortened to 8.3 notation because you were using a FAT16 file system. No biggie. Just rename the upgrad~1 back to upgrade.tar

mv upgrad~1 upgrade.tar

and then run the cpio command on it.

I changed the file as you suggested and it worked. I then went to Step 6 and the tivo rebooted - when it came back up bash was gone. I rechecked the settings for Kraven part 2

Still no bash. Is the Fat 16 messing up the steps again?

No, FAT16 has nothing to do with it. Re-check the baud rate, or try another term program.

Thanks again - advice on another program was perfect - up and running as far as I can tell. On that note is there a software adjustment number to know that 25Xtreme has been successfully updated with Kravens edition?

No, the update does not affect the Tivo's SW version number.
