I am puzzled as to what to do next. I have a Sony T-60 and have upgraded to 2 - 120GB hard drives. I have run 2.5 xtreme on these hard drives and reinstalled the hard drives back into Tivo. I have also installed turbonet and read that I needed to download Kraven. I did this and it reconstituted into a single file called “upgrade.tar.gz”. I also read the attached file called "Tivo upgrade." -- here is where I get stuck. I don't know how to follow the instructions laid out in this document. They make no sense to me. Are there instructions on what to do next, in plain English, somewhere?

Do I need a serial cable if I have turbo net?

If you got the instructions for Kraven's upgrade from the sticky at the top of the forum page then here's what you do:

Step 1 - Use TeraTerm to transfer the upgrade.tar.gz to the root directory of your Tivo (check the How Tos Only sticky thread, page 3, file downloads post for a link to download TeraTerm). When you connect to the Tivo via serial connection (or telnet), you are already in the root directory. The rz command is a Linux command to let the Tivo know that you are about to send a file. In TeraTerm, select the File option from the pulldown menu after connecting via serial port; then, select Transfer|ZMODEM|Send and then navigate to the directory containing the upgrade.tar.gz file. When you open the file it will be transferred to the Tivo drive. This will take a while so be patient.

Steps 2 thru 10 - type in the commands EXACTLY as stated and then press Enter at the end of each line. Note that you MUST wait for the bash prompt to reappear after typing and executing a command. The Tivo will reboot in step 6 so you will need to terminate the telnet session and wait about a minute, then re-establish a serial connection with the Tivo before continuing. Make sure the bash prompt is displayed before typing in any commands.

Thanks Captain video. But is there a way to do the same process by using Turbo net card? - I already have the turbo net card installed and don't have a serial cable right now. If there is not a way to use turbo net then of course I will get the serial cable from 9th tee and do as you posted - Just would like to use what I already have though. Thanks again.

you will need to install the drivers for the card. Get them (along with the boot cdand instructions) from 9thtee then use ftp to get the files over and telnet to 192.168.0.200

Yes, you can certainly transfer the files using a TurboNet adapter and an FTP program. As davel indicated, you will need to install the TurboNet drivers and also set up the Tivo for FTP transfers but your IP address will not necessarily be the same as he specified. Kraven's upgrade installs both of these and other utilities as well. You can make your own serial cable using the instructions provided in the How Tos Only sticky thread.
