I have a Hughes GXCEBOT that was updated to 3.1. I tried installing 25Xtreme on the same Quantum 40g drive and I always get a "decompression error". I downloaded 25Xtreme from another site and tryed, but the same error occurs. I was able to restore my backup to the drive and it worked (3.1 that is). I even restored a hughes 2.0 backup and that worked. If I restored d6k252x1.mfs (downloaded backup) to my quantum drive, I get stuck on the "Powering Up" screen.
Any help would be appreciated as I am a newbie and I maybe missing the obvious. Also is there another way to get a bash prompt with the 2.5.2 version I now have restored on my Quantum, or do you have to install 25Xtreme.
Thanks,

Check out the Tivo Hack FAQ for getting a bash prompt using Dylan's boot disc:
http://tivo.samba.org/index.cgi?req=all#4.6
You can download Dylan's boot disk from PVR Hack:

If your prom has never been reflashed (as is done automatically with v25xtreme) then you will need to do just the reflash.
Use the d6k252x1.mfs image. Then to do the reflash only go here and get file nic_cd_20020728.iso => http://www.9thtee.com/nic_cd_20020728.iso
Burn the image to a cd that you will boot on your pc with the tivo drive in the pc. Then follow steps 5 & 6 only from this procedure => http://www.silicondust.com/turbonet/install_software.html

Thanks for the info! I will give it a try.
Also, I bought a serial cable from 9th Tee and I was wondering if I still need a null modem adapter or if the cable from 9th Tee is already wired correctly?

superzap - One of the times that I restored the d6k252x1.mfs backup to my drive and booted my TiVo with it, at the "Powering Up" message my DTiVo did cut off then power back up but it would not boot past the "Powering up" message. I did run the DirectTivoMAd from the 25Xtreme boot cd even though I had to restore the d6k252x1.mfs backup outside of 25Xtreme. Does this mean the prom was flashed?
Thanks

I'm not sure where you are at this point. I would restore the d6k252x1.mfs image again. Then before you remove the HD and re-install in tivo, reboot the pc from the nic_cd_20020728.iso cd and follow the procedure in steps 5 & 6.
Don't know for sure if the 9thTee serial cable needs the null modem adapter but I don't think so. Make sure your baud is set to 9600 on Tera Term Pro.

The 9th Tee cable is already configured as a null modem adapter so none is required. All you need is the cable.

Thanks! Your suggestions worked the first time.
One last question: I can't record anything because a message comes up and says I have a hardware problem. Do I need to clear all the data and ToDo lists?
Thanks again for all you help.

Yup, you gotta do a clear and delete all.

Thanks to you all! Everthing is working fine now. You saved me days of tinkering. I spent 5 days getting to the point I created this thread and after your input, only a couple of hours to get it up and running.
