Sony T-60. Running good for over a year. It just started with
the "searching for signal" syndrome. Lot's of earlier posts have
had the same problem. Both tuners the same - low transponders
(1-3, 1-4, 1-6) good signal, higher transponders zip. It's a hardware
problem, common to both tuners. The repair outfit in NC even lists
it as one of the common problems that they can fix for $80. Anyone
get this fixed and know what component(s) were changed?

I can replace parts and would rather try this than take out the
extra hard drive, loose the programs I've recorded and have to
reload the original TIVO image.

(Just how are the transponders selected? Even/odd is by
LNB voltage - what picks transponder 3 vs. 5 vs. 7?

Thanks,

The tuner in the ird selects the transponder.
I would replace the lnb first.

Definately look at lnb first, then check your coax cable runs to be sure nothing has happened to them along the way.

I checked the Dual LNB on another unit. All expected transponders
were high signal. The other unit was on the downside of a
multiswitch. I then took one of the inputs to the multiswitch
and connected it direct to the "bad" unit. No signal strength
above transponder 6. It doesn't seem to be an even/odd
selection problem. It's all transponders above 6 or seven.
Both tuners. Logic implies it has to be something common to
both tuners. I find it hard to believe that both tuners would
fail the same way at the same time.

do you have an oval dish?

2 switch between differnet satellites, the box sends a tone up to the multiswitch.

I know one of the other sats only transmits on a few transponders. So maybe your box is stuck sending the tone for the second satellite?

and if you hooked up BEFORE the multiswitch to the line coming from that sats spot on the dish than you would only get that sat's few trnasponders.

I've got a round dish, dual LNB. During the signal test both
signals/tuners are basically identical strength. Feeding one
of the same coaxes into a different IRD works OK. At this
point I'm just a day or two away from packing it up and sending
it in for repair.

Thanks
