View Full Version : Phone line for DTV?
Thanks to all the posts here, I have my legit subbed DTivo working with Turbonet - makes "calls" thru cable modem connection, I can extract video using Tytools, etc. My question is since the Tivo part of the unit connects thru the internet, how does the Direct TV part "dial in" to keep my subbed card current? I saw some mention of binding the Turbonet to eth0 and also having a phone line connected, but I'd like to get rid of the phone line. Any hints?
Thanks,
Rob
Pretty sure the DTV part of the dialing in that a tivo does will need the phone line, but only if you are going to order a ppv etc.
You do not need a to have the phone line connected to "stay current."
OK, so I really don't need to have a phone line connected. I just don't want to raise any "flags" by not calling in, as I have 2 other DTivos that don't call in if you know what I mean. It's a P4 card in the legit unit, so "staying current" is rather useless at this point, with regard to cloning.
Thanks.
I've got a DirecTiVo, legit DirecTV sub and TiVo sub (free with premium actually...).
I've got a TurboNet installed and do not have the phone line connected. I don't order PPV- nor plan to.
It's been four or five months now and DirecTV hasn't complained!
Don't worry about the phoneline unless you plan on buying PPV with the remote. I think you can still order them over the website though.
