As a relative newbie with eventual plans to extract, but slightly lower than normal appetite for totally screwing up the system messing about, which approach carries fewer risks?

Is dd used if one wishes a one way trip for noscramble? and conversely, does one use noscramble.o if one might want to go back later?

Not totally resistant to reinstaling 25xtreme on my 120gb maxtor in the Sony t-60 (dont have that much recorded already) if I screw up, but am getting somewhat tired of doing it so would like opinions on the less risky way to go.

Thanks

Well dd is permanent, so you don't have to worry about remembering to load anything. If you screw it up and have to re-Xtreme, then now's the time to do it. Noscramble works well for me because I have a fair number of shows to get thru that are scrambled, so I like being able to unload it.
