I (finally) found some info on extracting video from a series 2 on this board. Thanks!

What I propose doing is mounting the drive(s) from my AT&TiVo in my PC and using the x86 Linux version of vplay to grab the streams. But without the TiVo-resident SW, how do you know the right stream IDs? The posts previously said that mfs_streams was broken.

Also, what about the strangeness of Series 2 video? Will it cause a problem?

I guess the different byteorder shouldn't be a problem...

I'll be running the video through TMPGEnc and putting it on VCD...

Thanks!

i'm assuming that tivo mucked around w/ the mfs system a bit. They probably renamed files/objects/directories and that's why the "old" tools won't work.

Does tivoweb work on the s2 yet?

someone will need to update the current tools to use any new files/objects/directories on the s2.

Nope, no shell access. Actually, the Series2 won't let you muck with the contents of the drive at all. Thus, the only currently possible way to extract video is to move the drive to a PC and extract it there. I WISH I could use the Series1 net tools...

actually, thats incorrect. if you can get bash access to a s2 (possible through various methods), then you can use tivoweb. extraction isnt known yet since most dont have s2 units to play with, but bash is definitely possible.

im not sure what strangeness you refer to, so i cant help on that.

I wasn't aware of any method to get bash or tivoweb on a series 2. I'll do a search, but this is the first I've heard of it!
